Introduction

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of Westfort college of Pharmacy was established in the year 2018. The department handles theory and practical subjects like Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Computer aided Drug design (CADD) for B.Pharm and D.Pharm students. Our group of competent faculty ensures that students succeed with the education and skills to advance their careers in academia, research and industry. Pharmaceutical chemistry involves the use of laboratory methods to determine the composition of samples qualitatively, semi quantitatively and quantitatively. The students get exposure to monitor the presence or absence of chemical moiety in given sample. Semi quantitative analysis allows the students to compare the amount of substance in each samples with a reference standard. A quantitative methods involves volumetric or titrimetric, gravimetric determinations, and instrumental methods of analysis to find out the amount of concentration of sample or percentage purity. The experimental chemistry correlate with theoretical knowledge helpful for the student for synthesizing, analyzing and validating chemical moieties which may have therapeutic properties in physiological system.

Vision

The dept of Pharmaceutical Chemistry aims to become one of the top research centers in recent years to groom budding scientists who are capable of developing new molecules, repurpose existing molecules and can change the face of a pharmacist to that of a professionally sound scholar. We strive to develop competent scientists in Quality control, Analytical development and validation, Research and Development to cater the ever growing needs of the world wide pharma industry. .

Mission

To Strive towards excellence in the field of higher education and research in Pharmaceutical Sciences and to be one of the principal sources of professional manpower in the Pharmafield.

Objectives

  • To inculcate the passion of research, provide the up to date, best possible facilities to students to become competent in the field of Research and development.
  • Guide the students to procure various funds for Research activities and in writing down publications in high indexed journals. .
  • To develop competent scientists, analysts and chemists for pharma industry by developing in them the culture of continuous learning culture.
  • To collaborate with various research organisations and pharma industries for research purposes and ensure that students are well placed after their course of study.
  • To sculptor great academicians and dedicated work force for the medical healthcare system..

Scope of the Program

Pharmaceutical Chemistry is a stimulating discipline which links and forms the base for many scientific disciplines and allows for collaboration with researchers from other disciplines like pharmacogenomics, toxicologists, pharmacologists, theoretical chemists, microbiologists, and bio-pharmacists in developing new drugs. One can place himself/herself in a competitive position by having a strong background in organic, medicinal and analytical chemistry. A Pharmaceutical chemist can find their career in Research and development, Quality control, Analytical Research and Development, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Writing, Pharmacovigilance and numerous other fields related to health care.

Scope of the Program

This discipline offers a wide variety of job opportunities in academics, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies, government agencies, research organizations and analytical laboratories. Pharmaceutical chemists are involved in wide range of activities and have the privilege of getting excited about exploring the unknown. Pharmaceutical chemists are involved in designing and synthesizing new drugs as well as evaluate those drugs which are already in the market. They have the responsibility of designing newer drugs with improved efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetic profiles
